Know our journey, our values, and our commitment to the working class of India.
Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) was founded on 23 July 1955 in New Delhi, with the vision of uniting workers under a nationalist and constructive framework. Inspired by the ideals of national integration and social justice, BMS emerged as a powerful voice for the working class, independent of political affiliations.
Over seven decades, BMS has grown into the largest trade union in India, representing more than 10 million workers across industries, agriculture, and services.
Founder & visionary
A legendary trade unionist, philosopher, and nationalist, Dattopant Thengadi laid the foundation of BMS with the belief that workers' welfare is integral to nation-building. His vision continues to guide the organisation.
To build a self-reliant, prosperous India where every worker enjoys dignity, fair wages, and social security in a harmonious industrial environment.
To organise, educate, and empower workers; to advocate for their rights; and to contribute to national development through constructive labour relations.
• Protect workers' rights and welfare
• Promote social justice and equality
• Strengthen industrial democracy
• Foster national unity and integrity
The BMS Constitution provides a democratic framework for the organisation. It outlines the rights and duties of members, the structure of national, state, district, and federation units, and the principles of collective decision-making. Download full constitution (PDF)
